Auterra

Auterra is a wine retail and tasting space designed to be a sensorial experience that evokes the allure and flavours of wine.
Drawing on the idea of terroir, the space is defined by soft sinuous curves bathed in earthy deep red tones, dividing the long shop space into various cavernous sections with a moody and atmospheric ambience that changes according to the time of day.

The journey begins at the concierge table in the middle, where guests are invited to browse the wine list or to explore the selection physically in the cellar space at the back, with advice available from the sommelier. Guests can buy the wines off the cellar to take-out, but are welcome to casually enjoy them on the spot at within the warm and intimate ambience of one of the sitting areas and the standing counter spaces.

Colour Codes

The shop is intended not only to be a place where people can buy bottles of wine off-the-shelf, but also a place to cultivate wine-drinking culture. Special focus was placed on creating moments for in-person interaction, sharing of knowledge and the building of long term relationship with the customer; to break the mould of traditional retail that focuses on the transaction.
Spatially, the environment was designed to be soft and cavernous, with small intimate spaces that flow through the space around the 2 existing structural columns within the shop unit. A deep red colour (applied in a variety of materials like textured plaster, terrazzo, micro cement) was chosen as the dominant palette of the space, to make the overall environment visually impactful and memorable. The full glass facade on one side of the shop is also exploited to allow daylight to come in, resulting in moments of light and shadow sweeping through the space as the day passes, adding a temporal quality to the space.
Drawing on the idea of ”terroir”,

deep red tones are applied onto sinuous curves that define the shop into intimate cavernous spaces with a moody and atmospheric ambience.

"In this project, colour was used to create a sensorial experience that evokes the allure and flavours of wine. Drawing on the idea of ”terroir”, deep red tones are applied onto sinuous curves that define the shop into intimate cavernous spaces with a moody and atmospheric ambience."
