Ebihara’s House

This is a courtyard-style house for a family of four. Since each of the four members of the family has an independent lifestyle, we wanted to create a shared space that resembles a town of small houses rather than a single large house. They also wanted to be able to care for family members in the future and face death at home.
Therefore, we set up a room near the entrance as a room for easy nursing care, and divided the entrance to the house into two separate entrances to make it easier for nurses to come to the home. And one of the entrances is sloped for easy wheelchair access. By connecting the two entrances to the city, the house blends in with the city, creating the feeling of living in a city even though it is a house.

In order to design the experience of living in the city, the wood, painted walls, and mortar used for the exterior walls were also used inside the house and in the courtyard, which are the base colors of this house. The interiors wrapped in these materials were painted in a variety of colors.

Colour Codes

The living room was painted a bright reddish color to harmonize with the wood, and the water area was painted and tiled in blue, which combined with the dark brownish-tail wood to create a fresh impression.
For each private room, we asked each of the four residents what colors they preferred, and chose colors that matched their individual personalities. By wrapping the colors of each individual in a base color and switching between them, we aimed to create a world that is colorful but calm.
