The GITAM Venture Development Centre (VDC) at GITAM University, Bangalore, is a transformative project that has converted underutilized areas into vibrant innovation and research spaces for students.
Strategic spatial design prioritizes clear navigation while cultivating an atmosphere of creativity, collaboration, and experimentation. This revitalized center serves as a dynamic meeting point for students, faculty, and innovators to share ideas, develop projects, and realize concepts.
The Innovation Street, a formerly neglected service area, is now a central connector linking key zones. Integrated informal collaboration spaces promote spontaneous discussions and interdisciplinary interaction. Eschewing traditional institutional design, Innovation Street offers an open and engaging environment that stimulates creativity. A bold color scheme enhances wayfinding and adds visual energy, making the space both practical and inspiring.

Colour Codes
A key design element is the bright yellow flooring, which immediately draws the eye and establishes an energetic ambiance. Subtle grey linear patterns complement the flooring, adding rhythm and guiding movement. This design consistency extends to the striking yellow pergola, constructed from interwoven metal bars. Functioning as both an architectural statement and a unifying feature, the pergola improves visual connection across different levels.
The pergola's design is both structural and artistic, adding depth and character. Its curved and linear forms soften the industrial look of the black staircases and tiered seating, introducing a sense of organic flow. Sunlight filtering through the pergola creates a constantly shifting interplay of light and shadow on the white walls and yellow flooring.
Additionally, the tiered seating provides adaptable spaces for group discussions, presentations, or individual work, ensuring the VDC remains functional and lively throughout the day.
